Vancouver Mall, led by Facilities Manager Pete Allen, needed to modernize its video surveillance after a $1.1B acquisition by Centennial Real Estate. Facing limited bandwidth, minimal in‑house IT resources, and a desire for a system that would scale beyond traditional 16/32‑channel DVRs, the mall evaluated solutions and selected Verkada’s cloud‑managed cameras and software to meet those constraints.

Verkada’s deployment (22 indoor and 8 outdoor cameras, software licences, and installation) was installed in just over a week—about 2x faster than a competing bid—and cost 27% less than traditional CCTV while carrying a 10‑year product warranty. By eliminating NVRs/DVRs and using only ~20 kbps per camera, Verkada enabled rapid remote investigations (mobility team found and shared slip‑and‑fall footage in under 15 minutes), reduced ongoing OPEX, and made incremental expansion easy—Vancouver Mall plans to add 6–10 more cameras and other Centennial sites are considering Verkada as well.
