A Verkada Case Study
The City of Lancaster, California, needed to modernize its public safety and security operations as part of a new hybrid policing model. Chief of Police Rodrick Armalin and his team were working with outdated cameras tied to on-premise DVRs, which limited visibility, slowed investigations, and made it harder to centralize incident response across the city. Verkada’s integrated security platform, including cameras, access control, alarms, and environmental sensors, was selected to support these needs.
With Verkada, Lancaster can manage security from the Command cloud interface, quickly search video, organize evidence with Incident Management, and receive real-time alerts from alarms and monitored devices. The city also uses cellular gateways for flexible deployments and air quality sensors to monitor health and safety conditions. As a result, Lancaster has improved response times, streamlined investigations, and strengthened crime prevention; in one example, an after-hours alarm helped authorities quickly disperse an unsanctioned gathering of over 100 vehicles.
