How Petroc College deployed hybrid cloud security across three campuses

Petroc College, a further education and higher education college serving up to 11,000 students across three campuses in Devon, UK, needed to replace a piecemeal CCTV setup that relied on on-premises infrastructure. The old system was difficult for non-technical staff to use, made remote access cumbersome, and often pulled IT into every video request, especially for safeguarding and incident review. Verkada’s cloud-based video security platform was chosen after a successful pilot.

Verkada was deployed across Petroc College’s campuses to give staff intuitive, role-based access to footage from phones or laptops, improve safeguarding, and reduce the burden on IT. The system also enabled quicker access to evidence for incidents, better monitoring of high-traffic areas, and useful analytics for finding people or objects of interest. As a result, Petroc’s Estates and Centre Managers now manage much of the system themselves, and the college has 24/7 visibility at key sites including its South West Institute of Technology building.
