How One School District Protected Its Campus Against Fuel Theft and Trespassing

Tumwater School District, a K-12 district serving about 6,400 students across 13 schools, needed a more reliable way to protect its campuses after struggling with outdated security systems, poor video quality, and repeated trespassing and fuel theft from parked buses and vans. The district turned to Verkada, using its cloud-managed cameras, Command platform, air quality sensors, and intercoms to improve campus security and visibility.

With Verkada, Tumwater School District deployed real-time alerts, remote monitoring, incident management tools, LPR/VOI and POI capabilities, and air quality sensors to detect vaping and support safer school operations. The system helped staff catch trespassers in the act, quickly alert law enforcement, and consolidate evidence for investigations, while also improving response to fights, unauthorized parking lot activity, and visitor management. The district also reported reduced maintenance and downtime, lowering total cost of ownership with Verkada.
