Townsend School District, a rural Montana K–12 district serving 683 students, needed to improve campus and public-library safety after its legacy DVR system left staff with limited offsite access, frequent camera downtime, slow footage retrieval, and weak perimeter monitoring. Technical Assistant Joe Gill evaluated vendors and selected Verkada’s hybrid cloud camera platform to provide secure remote monitoring, reliable recording, and better analytics.

Verkada installed hybrid cloud cameras with local SSD recording plus cloud backup, downtime alerts, SSO/SAML remote access via app and web, smart search in Command, and people analytics to spot unauthorized visitors. The result: staff can resolve incidents far more quickly—Townsend reports a quadrupling of incident-resolution speed and retrieves footage roughly ten times faster than before—while preserving evidentiary video, reducing shared-login risk, and planning to expand Verkada coverage.
