A Verkada Case Study

How a Not-for-Profit Mental Health Organization Expanded Surveillance Coverage Quickly and Easily

The Mental Health Center of Denver, a not‑for‑profit serving more than 20,000 patients across 14 facilities, faced fragmented, aging DVR-based video systems that were costly to maintain, hard to scale for small residential sites, and slow to provide timely footage. When IT took over operations, Director Chris Walker evaluated cloud-based options and chose Verkada to modernize and centralize their surveillance.

Verkada deployed cloud‑managed PoE cameras and a user‑friendly centralized platform (offering extended retention — initially 90 days and now up to 120 on some models), replacing 235 legacy cameras in phase one with secure, weather‑ready hardware. The deployment eliminated frequent DVR failures, simplified exports via shareable links and motion search, reduced IT support time, and provided a scalable solution—the Mental Health Center of Denver plans to add 30 more cameras and new D80 fisheye units as they continue to expand.
