How a Non-Profit Organization Reduced Incident Response Time with a Modern Surveillance System

The Salvation Army, responsible for hundreds of community centers in the Houston area, faced slow incident response and inefficient video review as it expanded from 4 to 19 facilities. Legacy DVR systems consumed excessive bandwidth, produced poor-quality or misdirected footage, and made finding and sharing clips with authorities time-consuming. To address this, IT Manager Isaac Samuel evaluated and selected Verkada’s hybrid-cloud surveillance solution (Verkada cameras and the Command management platform).

Verkada deployed plug-and-play cameras and Command, delivering 10-minute installs per camera, no NVR/DVRs, and cloud-backed features like people/car detection, heatmaps, SMS alerts, and easy link-based sharing. The result: time to locate and share footage dropped from hours to minutes, per-camera bandwidth fell to ~20 kbps (relieving network strain at sites with 30 analog cameras), and administrators gained faster, proactive visibility—outcomes that Verkada’s support and warranties helped ensure as The Salvation Army scales the solution to more locations.
