How a Historic Municipality in Virginia reduced crime by 38%

HopeWell, a historic municipality in Virginia, needed a modern way for local authorities to remotely manage live security video and improve public safety. With no city cameras they could directly access and control from afar, the police department and CIO Jay Rezin turned to Verkada’s cloud-managed video security platform, working with Gridless to support coverage in areas without traditional power access.

Verkada and Gridless deployed more than 90 cameras citywide, including 20+ CH52-E multisensors, giving HopeWell better real-time visibility, vehicle analytics, and clearer evidence for investigations and court cases. The system helped resolve three homicides and numerous other incidents, and HopeWell reported a 38% reduction in major crime during its first deployment year, along with faster emergency response and improved community confidence.
