How a Florida Nonprofit Optimized Remote Security for System Health Management and Incident Response

Step Up For Students, a Florida nonprofit that provides K–12 scholarships, struggled with a patchwork of prosumer cameras, no centralized way to audit system health, inconsistent remote access to footage, and limited vendor support. James Oliva, the organization’s Director of Information Security, needed an easy-to-maintain, remotely accessible solution and chose Verkada (including its Command management software and enterprise cameras) to address those gaps.

Verkada deployed a centralized platform that shows camera status on maps/floor plans, sends offline and tamper alerts, stores archived clips as standard MP4s, and enables quick sharing; automatic firmware/software updates and U.S.-based support simplified maintenance. As a result, what once took hours to find is now found in minutes, total cost of ownership has decreased through predictable two-line pricing, and IT budget previously spent on emergency fixes and updates has been repurposed.
