How a District Uses Hybrid Cloud Video Security to Protect & Provide Clean Water Resources

Moapa Valley Water District, the primary water provider for over 9,000 Nevada residents, faced an urgent compliance mandate and realized its rudimentary entry alarms and a few cameras could not protect remote pumping and springs facilities. With tight budget and time constraints and limited connectivity at sites, the district selected Verkada’s cloud-based hybrid video solution—deploying plug-and-play cameras (including D80 fisheye units) and cellular-enabled cameras—to quickly upgrade surveillance.

Verkada implemented cameras across the main office and two pumping facilities in days and used lightweight cellular modems and hybrid cloud storage to overcome sub‑1 Mbps links, with cameras operating at just 5–20 kbps. The deployment increased coverage across critical areas, let one D80 fisheye replace 3–4 legacy cameras, enabled fence motion alerts and remote live/playback access from any browser, and delivered the visibility and incident response capability the district needed while staying within budget.
