How a Director of IT Simplified Surveillance Management Across Multiple Retail Locations

Cycle Gear, a U.S. motorcycle parts and apparel retailer with 146 locations, needed to centralize surveillance and cut management overhead. Ed Homich, Director of IT, faced a legacy mix of hardware installed over decades that made auditing, troubleshooting, and footage retrieval difficult—nonoperational cameras went unnoticed, multiple platforms required separate logins, and inconsistent access slowed incident response.

Verkada deployed its camera hardware and single management platform across Cycle Gear stores (currently 80+ cameras in 16 locations), simplifying installs (single PoE cable, QR-code setup in seconds) and enabling remote monitoring with alerts for downtime, tampering, and power outages. The Verkada solution streamlined user management and footage access for store managers and executives, improved uptime detection and incident response, and has prompted plans to expand to a dozen more stores—Ed says he has “found his solution.”
