How a College Modernized Surveillance Across 11 Campuses with a Hybrid Cloud Security System

South Louisiana Community College (SLCC), which serves 6,000 students across 11 campuses, was managing a fragmented 400‑camera estate of DVRs, IP cameras and aging servers that made footage retrieval slow, user access nearly impossible to standardize, and 24/7 monitoring a drain on a nine‑person IT team. To modernize surveillance, CIO Brad Breaux engaged Verkada to implement a hybrid cloud security/surveillance platform.

Verkada consolidated SLCC’s cameras onto a single cloud‑managed platform, enabling remote access, advanced search, centralized user and SSO/SAML permissions, and motion notifications that removed the need for constant on‑site monitoring. The college has replaced 275 legacy cameras with Verkada (final rollout expected within two months), experienced immediate improvements in incident response and team productivity, and now gives faculty and security controlled, real‑time visibility across all campuses.
