Sonoco Recycling drives efficiency with Verizon Connect Fleet

Sonoco Recycling, the recycling division of Sonoco, needed a better way to manage a large fleet of 83 trucks and improve route efficiency across the southern U.S. Without visibility into truck locations, plant managers were stuck in a time-consuming phone chain, and much of the routing knowledge lived only in experienced drivers’ heads. Verizon Connect helped address these challenges with its fleet and route optimization tools, including Verizon Connect Fleet.

With Verizon Connect Fleet and Verizon Connect Workforce, Sonoco gained near real-time GPS visibility, automated route planning, HOS tracking, and digital work orders. The results were significant: Sonoco saved more than $100,000 in fuel, reduced damage repair costs by at least $60,000, and increased average route loads from 10–12 tons to 17–18 tons per route. Verizon Connect also helped cut route setup time from hours a day to less than 45 minutes per month, improving efficiency, forecasting, and customer service.
