United Global Logistics, an Illinois-based freight company operating since 2002 with a 138-tractor-trailer fleet and services including LTL, FCL, intermodal and hazmat, faced the need to improve driver safety, Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and fleet productivity ahead of the ELD mandate. To address these challenges they turned to Verizon Connect, deploying the Reveal telematics platform alongside the LogBook electronic logging solution.
Verizon Connect implemented LogBook (ahead of the mandate) and Reveal to automate HOS tracking, send alerts when drivers exceed hours or miss required breaks, and monitor speeding and harsh-driving events per driver for near real-time coaching. The combined Verizon Connect solution eliminated paper log review and manual time calculations, simplified dispatcher workflows, strengthened safety oversight, improved customer service and positioned UGL to consider fleet growth.
