A Verizon Business Case Study

Verizon 5G is helping speed up and streamline visual news reporting at The New York Times

The New York Times worked with Verizon Business to improve how its journalists capture and deliver visual news content. As a fast-moving media organization with growing needs for photo, video, and immersive storytelling, The New York Times needed a better way to transmit high-resolution material from the field without slowing reporters down or interrupting coverage.

Verizon Business helped The New York Times create the 5G Journalism Lab and roll out three 5G-enabled tools: Beam for photojournalism, Environmental Photogrammetry for interactive 3-D storytelling, and Eclipse for video journalism. These solutions let journalists upload content faster, work more efficiently on the go, and collaborate with editors in near real time. The impact included nearly instantaneous photo delivery from the 2020 Oscars, with one photographer sending back eight times more photos than the previous year, along with faster, richer visual storytelling across the newsroom.
