Verizon 5G boosting Snapchat’s AR capabilities

Snapchat, a leading social media platform with 218 million users, sought to enhance its augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Their challenge was to achieve higher network speeds, greater bandwidth, and lower latency to optimize the performance of its AR lenses and create new, innovative user experiences for its community. To address this, Snapchat partnered with Verizon Business.

Verizon Business implemented its 5G Ultra Wideband network to provide the necessary low latency and high-speed bandwidth, enabling new and improved AR experiences on Snapchat. The two companies also collaborated at Verizon's 5G Labs to further explore AR capabilities. The solution allows Snapchat users to create AR-enhanced images with over 600,000 lenses. An additional result is that Verizon will preload the Snapchat app on select 5G phones, facilitating greater access to these AR experiences for users.
