Associated British Ports builds the port of the future with Private 5G Network

Associated British Ports (ABP), operator of the Port of Southampton, was struggling with inconsistent public 4G coverage across a vast port area, which caused manual data entry, inefficient vehicle tracking, and limited visibility across operations. To support faster, smarter decision-making and future digital services, ABP turned to Verizon Business and its Private 5G Network.

Verizon Business deployed a Private 5G Network with eight access points covering about 200 to 230 acres at the port, enabling near real-time data collection, better connectivity for rugged handheld devices, and improved security and latency. The result was greater port capacity utilization, faster vehicle tracking and customs updates, fewer access points, and a foundation for future innovations such as digital twins, AI, and computer vision, all with minimal operational disruption and deployment from contract to production in under six months.
