Case Study: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar accelerates 5G innovation with Verizon Business

A Verizon Business Case Study

Preview of the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Case Study

5G and technological innovation help the Department of Defense explore new frontiers

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, working through the Department of Defense’s SoCal Tech Bridge, needed a faster way to explore emerging technologies and keep pace with commercial innovation in areas like autonomous vehicles, drones, and base security. The challenge was to create a collaborative environment where new ideas could be tested quickly without the delays of traditional government processes, and Verizon Business was selected as a partner to help advance 5G-enabled innovation.

Verizon Business implemented a 5G living lab at Miramar using Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband, 26 4G LTE and 5G small cells, and edge computing via Verizon 5G Edge connected to AWS. The solution supports testing of connected vehicles, unmanned systems, energy communications, and security applications, while improving speed, bandwidth, and low-latency performance. The collaboration has already helped Miramar expand autonomous vehicle testing, use autonomous shuttles for mission-critical deliveries, and rapidly prototype new capabilities, creating a model for government-industry partnership.
