Case Study: China International Marine Containers achieves efficient, compliant hybrid cloud data protection with Veritas Technologies

A Veritas Technologies Case Study

Preview of the China International Marine Containers Case Study

Veritas NetBackup™ Appliance and Amazon Web Services team up to improve efficiency of data protection

China International Marine Containers Ltd. (CIMC), a global manufacturer with operations in nearly 20 countries, embarked on a digital transformation to run its ERP on the cloud but needed fast, reliable backups for both cloud-based and on‑premises data while meeting China’s disaster‑recovery standard. The company wanted to replace manual tape processes with a unified, automated solution that could protect distributed systems, ensure on‑premises copies of ERP data, and scale with its global operations.

CIMC deployed a Veritas NetBackup 5240 appliance in its Shenzhen data center alongside a cloud NetBackup instance on Amazon Web Services, using NetBackup AIR for secure, WAN‑optimized replication and CloudCatalyst to move older backups to S3. The integrated solution centralized management, cut bandwidth costs by about 66%, dramatically reduced backup storage via deduplication, delivered a 1‑minute RPO and 30‑minute RTO for recent data (4‑hour RTO for older backups), met GB/T 20988‑2007 compliance, and lowered overall TCO.
