Turk Telecom - Customer Case Study

Türk Telekom, Turkey’s largest telecom serving all 81 provinces with more than 13.7 million fixed lines, 9.7 million broadband customers and 19.6 million mobile subscribers, faced disjointed, siloed backup systems after consolidating its mobile, landline, Internet and TV operations and protecting over 3 petabytes of data. The fragmented local backup infrastructures and separate admin teams increased operational inefficiency and risk of data loss, creating an urgent need to modernize and centralize data protection.

Working with Veritas, Türk Telekom standardized on NetBackup Appliances, updated backup hardware, and migrated critical systems (including from EMC) with a full design, migration, training and support program. The consolidation cut tapeless appliances from 21 to 11, backup zones from 9 to 2, tape libraries from 13 to 4, backup servers from 43 to 25 and data protection applications from 5 to 1, delivering major gains: 78% savings in maintenance support, 59% less administrative effort, 33% lower cooling costs, 25% smaller data center footprint, 40% software license savings and an expected 60% OPEX reduction (TL3.1 million / US$807,000 annually), while improving backup performance and reducing production impact and data-loss risk.
