Facing a highly virtualized VMware environment and a heterogeneous landscape including SAP HANA, SVLFG needed a simple, highly automated two‑tier backup that reduced storage costs while providing strong protection against ransomware.

Fujitsu and Veritas ran a Flightbox proof of concept and delivered a NetBackup solution with two NetBackup Appliances 5340 and Fujitsu ETERNUS LT140 LTO‑8 tape libraries, plus migration, training and documentation. The multi‑level appliance‑plus‑tape approach cut operating costs, reduced appliance storage via deduplication, and strengthened ransomware defenses—enabling backup of 60 TB from the Kassel site to a mirrored datacenter within six hours.
