Slashing Backup and Maintenance Time by 83 percent with Solutions from Veritas™ and BeaTRice

Tongmyong University, a Busan-based higher-education institution with about 1,000 staff and 9,140 students, faced growing data protection challenges as its 5 TB Oracle database and mixed server environment expanded. Daily and full backups were slow and labor-intensive—full backups took more than 36 hours and routine administration fell largely on a single system manager—creating scalability, storage and reliability concerns.

The university deployed a Veritas NetBackup 5220 appliance with implementation support from BeaTRice, which delivered rapid deployment and improved visibility. Results included an 83% reduction in full backup time (down to six hours), a 92% deduplication rate, a five-fold decrease in backup administration time (from about an hour a day to an hour a week), 100% backup/recovery success, reduced storage costs (KRW 6.9M) and payback in under two years, freeing staff time for other projects.
