Mexican retirement fund provider breathes new life into data protection

Profuturo Group, a leading Mexican retirement fund administrator managing about 12% of workers’ accounts, faced mounting risk and regulatory pressure as its tape-based backup system could not keep up with rapid data and application growth. Incremental backups routinely failed to finish overnight and restores took hours, exposing the company to CONSAR fines and jeopardizing its obligation to retain client data for 10 years.

Profuturo replaced tapes with Veritas NetBackup Appliances for short-term backups and NetBackup CloudCatalyst to deduplicate and move long-term data to AWS S3. Backups now complete in a three-hour window, restores are 98% faster (about 5 minutes vs. 4 hours), CONSAR fines have fallen, one night-shift FTE was eliminated, and tape media/storage costs dropped roughly 50%, while overall compliance and recovery reliability greatly improved.
