Large US County Cuts Recovery Time Objective from Days to 8 Hours or Less Using Veritas InfoScale™ Enterprise

A large U.S. county government (≈13,000 employees) depended on its FOCUS SAP platform for finance, HR, procurement and other core services—up to 70% of operations could be disrupted if FOCUS failed. Facing audit requirements to demonstrate remote recovery and an estimated negative impact of as much as $434,000 per hour of unplanned downtime, the IT team needed a faster, more reliable disaster recovery approach.

The county deployed Veritas InfoScale Enterprise (Storage Foundation, Replicator, Cluster Server, Operations Manager and Dynamic Multi-Pathing) to replicate ~9 TB of data to a DR site 50 miles away and to automate failovers between primary and standby servers. As a result, RTO dropped from 2–3 days to eight hours or less (RPO met at 24 hours), simulated failover testing saves an estimated five staff days per year, planned downtime could be reduced by 144 hours annually, and the county greatly reduced its risk of costly outages.
