Introducing NetBackup to a large scale virtual infrastructure supporting the core business of a corporate group

Entetsu System Service Co. Ltd. (ESS), the IT arm of the Entetsu Group serving communities in western Shizuoka, faced a legacy backup process that was manual, tape-based and slow—daily backups were impractical, recovery point objectives (RPOs) were sometimes measured in months, staff worked late-night shifts to run backups, and tapes had to be transported offsite for continuity.

ESS implemented Veritas NetBackup with the VADP Accelerator and NetBackup Auto Image Replication, reconfiguring VMs onto VMFS to enable fast, automated daily full backups that finish by 5 a.m. Most VMs now back up in 1–5 minutes, deduplication cut storage needs dramatically (example: 19 TB ➜ 9 TB; up to 99.8% dedupe), offsite replication is automated, RPOs improved, tape handling and late-night work were eliminated, and overall business continuity and operational efficiency were greatly enhanced.
