A Veritas Technologies Case Study
Liberty Group Ltd., a Johannesburg-based insurer serving customers across 18 African markets, faced heavy regulatory requirements to retain customer data for years or even decades. Its legacy tape-based retention was costly, labor-intensive, slow to restore (often 48+ hours), and ill-suited to the company’s move toward cloud and digital transformation.
Liberty replaced tapes with Veritas NetBackup Appliances for primary backups, a Veritas Access Appliance for long-term disk retention, and NetBackup replication to AWS S3 for multi-year archives, while using Veritas InfoScale and APTARE for storage virtualization and monitoring. The new solution automated backups, dramatically reduced backup windows, enabled immediate restores, saved about 900,000 rand (~US$100,000) per year in tape and offsite costs, freed staff time, and kept the business compliant as it shifts to the cloud.
