SkyLink Data Centers, founded in 1991 and serving 4,000 businesses and 30,000 users, needed a reliable, fast and cost-efficient backup and recovery platform to support its multi-tenant, mixed-OS environment and to minimize costly downtime for customers. The company’s challenge was to deliver high SLAs while keeping hardware and administration overhead low.

By upgrading to Veritas Backup Exec 2014, SkyLink achieved up to 20% faster backups (vs. 2012), deduplication that is three times faster than Backup Exec 2010 and up to 10% better dedupe ratios (vs. 2012), a 99% backup success rate and 100% recovery success across 20 restores per month. The upgrade enabled recovery of 15 servers to dissimilar hardware in under three hours, reduced storage needs (15 TB deduped to an effective 159 TB saved), avoided a $15–20K storage purchase, and cut weekly administration to about 45 minutes.
