A Veritas Technologies Case Study
Porto Itapoá is a fast-growing Brazilian port that must operate 24/7 to support expanding TEU capacity, so downtime is unacceptable. Its IT ran about 150 VMware VMs and relied on tape-based backups that covered only ~30% of data, could not protect SAP HANA, and required long restore windows—leaving large business continuity risks.
Working with Veritas Professional Services, the port deployed NetBackup Appliances in both data centers with Auto Image Replication, native deduplication, NetBackup Accelerator and GRT, plus Veritas Information Map and Smart Meter for sizing. The result: more than 90% of systems now backed up (three times the previous throughput in the same 12-hour window), dramatically smaller backups, VM full backups in about 2 minutes, restores in minutes (single email ~5 min, single file ~3 min), 100% successful restore tests, fewer tapes and much lower admin effort.
