A Veritas Technologies Case Study
A large Florida County Sheriff’s Office struggled with a distributed, tape-based backup environment—dozens of tape drives, hundreds of tapes and spreadsheet-based tracking—while data volumes surged from in-car and body camera video and a new 72 TB cybercrime unit. Backups regularly failed to complete within the overnight window, network resources were strained, staff were overburdened, and hurricanes made reliable data protection business-critical.
The office deployed Veritas NetBackup appliances (with deduplication, Auto Image Replication and Data Protection Optimization), NetBackup software for remaining systems, and Veritas Enterprise Vault for file archiving. As a result, a job that once took four days now finishes in four hours, far less data requires backup, all locations are protected centrally, backup hardware has been dramatically reduced, reporting is simplified, staff productivity and strategic focus have improved, and the cybercrime unit can be supported.
