Clarke Power Services Faces IT’s Darkest Hour But Recovers 100 Percent of Servers with Veritas Backup Exec

Clarke Power Services, a Cincinnati-based transportation and service company with about 800 employees, suffered a major IT crisis when its SAN became corrupted during a VMware upgrade, triggering a nine-day outage that forced staff to revert to paper processes and threatened prolonged business disruption and data loss.

Clarke used Veritas Backup Exec to restore more than 50 virtual and physical servers—100% recovered on the first try in roughly 15 minutes per server—and upgraded smoothly to Backup Exec 2014. Combined with Veritas Enterprise Vault to index and remove hundreds of PSTs, the solution reclaimed about 700 GB of email storage, eliminated mailbox quotas (freeing an estimated 5,000 employee hours per year), sped searches and granular recoveries, and reduced backup administration to under an hour a week.
