Boosting IT Resilience and Efficiency with Veritas Helps Leading Hospital Excel

Maine Medical Center, Maine’s largest nonprofit tertiary hospital (637 beds, 6,000+ employees), serves patients statewide and faces tight budgets while protecting critical medical data across many sites. As it virtualized servers and expanded remote care, the IT team needed centralized, efficient backups and robust disaster recovery to reduce risk, storage strain, and staff time.

By deploying Veritas Storage Foundation HA, Veritas NetBackup 7 (with deduplication, Oracle agent and vStorage API integration) and Enterprise Vault archiving, MMC shortened RTO/RPO from weeks to two hours, cut VMware backup times up to 10x, and achieved ~90% deduplication (reducing backed-up data from 152 to 16 TB). The project reclaimed storage (disk utilization fell to ~21%), avoided $30,000 in hardware and ~$2,000/month in network costs, sped restores and administration, and freed IT staff for higher‑value work.
