Backing Up Over 9 Petabytes a Month with Veritas Solutions

Acxiom, a global information-management and IT outsourcing provider, was facing rapid data growth—backing up from 1.4 PB to 9 PB per month—and needed to improve protection efficiency, reduce customers’ tape-related costs, simplify a complex backup environment, support virtualized workloads, and meet tighter SLAs.

Acxiom deployed 25 Veritas NetBackup 5220 appliances with deduplication, NetBackup agents, site-to-site replication (AIR), OpsCenter Analytics and Veritas Business Critical Services. The move retired aging media servers and VTLs, delivered 100% restore success, fourfold faster virtual-machine backups, simplified billing and operations, new off-site disk/DR revenue opportunities, and up to a 30% potential reduction in backup costs for customers moving off tape.
