Vestas Wind Systems Blows Away Global Deployment Challenges with 3E Protect

Vestas Wind Systems, the world’s largest wind-turbine manufacturer, faced a complex global regulatory challenge: managing a vast, constantly changing library of safety data sheets (SDSs) for kits containing roughly 200 chemical components each, shipped to many countries. Inconsistent local tracking across 14 business units and limited internal resources made it difficult to ensure the correct, language- and regulation-specific SDSs accompanied every shipment. Vestas engaged Verisk 3E and its 3E Protect solution to find a scalable, global SDS obtainment and management system.

Verisk 3E implemented a global rollout of 3E Protect beginning in January 2010, with its Data Center Specialists obtaining and maintaining SDSs and deploying the system to 11 of Vestas’ 14 business units. The result is a centralized library of more than 3,500 documents in 18 languages, more reliable SDS updates, and improved confidence that compliant hazard communication documents travel with each kit—delivering measurable gains in efficiency and scalability as Verisk 3E supports Vestas’ continued expansion and North American obtainment efforts.
