Verisk 3E Helps LG&E and KU Electrify Its SDS Management Program

Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company (LG&E and KU), a PPL‑owned regulated utility serving hundreds of thousands of electric and gas customers, was struggling to manage nearly 6,000 Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) stored in spreadsheets and more than 50 volumes of binders. After a prior electronic system failed to meet requirements, LG&E and KU selected Verisk 3E’s 3E Protect online service to centralize SDS management and improve supplier onboarding and inventory accuracy.

Verisk 3E’s team collected and indexed the utility’s SDS inventory, built a custom 3E Protect database accessible to about 3,200 employees, and enabled web‑based reporting, real‑time materials inventories, custom fields, and compliant labeling. The Verisk 3E deployment eliminated manual binder maintenance, made SDSs immediately accessible, improved regulatory compliance and inventory accuracy, and freed the Health and Safety coordinator to focus on strategic initiatives.
