Verisk 3E Fuels Shell's EHS Compliance Management

Shell Oil, a global energy and petrochemical company, faced the challenge of tracking and complying with constantly changing international chemical regulations (notably REACH and GHS) while managing a massive, multilingual SDS authoring workload across many jurisdictions. To meet these needs, Shell Oil partnered with Verisk 3E and adopted solutions including 3E Optimize integrated into SAP EHS, 3E Insight for Chemicals, and Verisk 3E’s SDS Authoring Services.

Verisk 3E integrated comprehensive regulatory content into Shell’s SAP EHS system, provided 3E Insight for Chemicals to 175 users as a single‑source regulatory reference, and co‑sourced SDS authoring via secure remote access to Shell’s platform. The partnership delivered measurable impact: Verisk 3E authored more than 1,600 SDSs in five months (including a 1,500‑SDS lubricant project), completed additional fuel and lubricant document projects (roughly 100 and 110 documents respectively), participated in review/audit of 300+ updated documents, and materially reduced the time and cost to produce accurate, compliant SDSs—helping Shell Oil sustain over a decade of improved regulatory compliance.
