A Verifone Case Study
Zizzi, a UK chain of 136 Italian restaurants, wanted an easy, engaging alternative to a counter collections tin to encourage customers to take part in its CSR activity and boost funds raised for charity. Verifone worked with Zizzi to deploy a digital solution—Pennies—through its PaaS and PAYware Ocius payment platform to make donating simple at checkout.
Verifone enabled Pennies as a virtual charity box (with online reporting) and configured the donation prompt to appear after the gratuity request to protect staff tips. The Verifone solution has been live since 2013 and, after adding Cancer Research UK as a beneficiary in May 2014, helped Zizzi raise £100,000 in the first eight months (about £3,500 per week across 136 restaurants) with a suggested donation of 25p.
