RNV (Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH), the urban public transport provider for the Rhein-Neckar area (including Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ludwigshafen), needed a modern self-service ticketing solution offering a simple cashless option. They required support for popular local and major card types (GeldKarte, girocard, Maestro, V PAY, credit cards), contactless payments, strong security and sustainable, low‑maintenance hardware. Verifone was engaged to supply secure, standards‑compliant payment terminals for the project.

Verifone provided its modular UX Solutions self‑service series (UX 100 PIN pad, UX 300 card reader/controller, UX 400 contactless reader) via a partnership with Xerox Business Services and integrated the modules into around 200 Xerox ticket machines. The rollout delivered multi‑card and contactless acceptance, improved accessibility with visual and audio prompts, rugged vandal protection, and compatibility with prior Artema installations without extensive software changes. The deployment of over 200 upgraded machines ran smoothly, enhanced transaction security and sustainability, and stakeholders reported high satisfaction with the integration and installation.
