Megamark, which operates more than 300 supermarket stores under the Superstore Famila and Supermarket Dok brands, needed to remove the time-consuming process of paper and electronic meal voucher management and enable fast point-of-sale validation for multiple issuers. To solve this, Megamark engaged Verifone and adopted the Verifone Meal Voucher Solution using VX 520 countertop payment devices with integrated barcode readers.

Verifone deployed 300 VX 520 terminals connected to issuer databases so cashiers can scan vouchers for instant validation (allowing printed vouchers to be destroyed) while managers use a web portal for real-time reporting and automated invoicing. The Verifone solution eliminated storing, counting and shipping vouchers, reduced the risk of accepting false vouchers, improved payment flow, and—since deployment completed in May 2012—Megamark has been validating about 150,000 meal vouchers per month.
