Google Wallet partnered with Verifone to solve a major rollout challenge: enabling merchant acceptance of NFC/CTLS payments, mobile offers, and loyalty through Google Wallet’s SingleTap technology. Millions of checkout lanes needed to be enabled, yet many merchants did not support NFC/CTLS and none had interfaces for mobile offers, coupons, or loyalty — and there were no established specs to pass that value-added data into retailer systems.

Verifone used its NFC App Manager firmware to deploy an app that enabled Google Offers and loyalty on thousands of checkout lanes, created the PAYDOCX interface specs so retailer systems could understand and route offers/loyalty, and leveraged its MX 800/900 series devices with simple NFC/CTLS add‑ons to avoid wholesale hardware replacement. As a result, Verifone enabled Google Wallet acceptance at major retailers coast to coast, bringing NFC payments and mobile offers/loyalty into production across thousands of lanes.
