Certified Oil, a regional fuel retailer undergoing a major rebrand across its 80+ stores, needed a differentiated, consumer‑first loyalty program that wouldn’t simply copy competitors’ tactics. Facing strong competition from petroleum retailers and supermarket chains, Certified wanted a carefully designed pilot and measurable proof of concept; they also had already upgraded many sites to Verifone’s Sapphire site controller and web server system to support new initiatives.

Verifone, working with partner ValueCentric Marketing Group (VCMG), implemented a card‑based “Certified Savings Program” using the Sapphire system as the data collection point and VCMG as program administrator. The solution installed quickly at sites (rewarding customers in under 15 minutes), and Certified saw improvements across three key KPIs: higher loyalty transactions as a share of sales, more transactions per loyalty customer per month, and a 50% increase in loyalty customer spend per month versus the base period. Easy expansion to more sites and multi‑channel marketing (web statements, email/SMS, receipt messaging and employee programs) are driving further rollout.
