Cancer Research UK, a leading cancer charity with 600+ high‑street retail shops that relies on voluntary funding, needed a simple, visible way to boost donations and stand out on crowded UK high streets. Verifone partnered with the charity, adapting its VX 820 PIN pad and leveraging its Payment as a Service (PaaS) capabilities to prototype a contactless, window‑facing donation solution.

Verifone installed the glass‑encased VX 820 in four shop windows (Kensington, Marylebone, Brighton, Guildford), enabling 24/7 “tap and donate” £2 contributions that also triggered an in‑window video showing the impact of donations. The two‑week trial engaged nearly 70,000 people (about one‑sixth of passers‑by), drove brand and online engagement, and delivered secure, PCI‑compliant payments while simplifying donation collection through Verifone’s integrated PaaS offering.
