B&Q - Customer Case Study

B&Q, the UK’s largest home improvement and garden centre retailer with around 350 stores and 3 million customers, needed to adopt the new PCI P2PE standard to increase payment security and simplify card payments across store, online and MOTO channels. To meet P2PE requirements it had to replace its PIN‑pad estate with devices holding PTS 3.x approval and SRED capability and sought a trusted provider able to deliver a complete omnichannel PaaS and PCI P2PE‑validated solution.

B&Q chose Verifone to deploy a full PCI P2PE PaaS: Verifone’s payment gateway and almost 4,500 VX 820 NFC/CTLS terminals were rolled out across stores, with the same platform supporting its call centre and website. Verifone’s solution encrypts card data from point of entry, uses tokenization, moves card data out of store systems (reducing B&Q’s PCI DSS scope), and materially lowers breach risk while freeing resources—securing payments for millions of customers and standardising encryption across the estate.
