Uphold, a global cryptocurrency exchange with about 2 million customers and 200 staff, faced mounting fraud and compliance challenges as it scaled. After testing vendors, Uphold partnered with Veriff to provide online ID verification (KYC/IDV) including live video detection and customised verification flows to meet global onboarding and business-owner verification needs.

Veriff replaced Uphold’s previous provider following an A/B test and delivered higher-quality verifications, velocity‑abuse detection and a custom document-only flow for business onboarding. As a result, Uphold’s verification success rate rose from 78% to 87%, quarterly verification volumes grew 71% from Q1 to Q2 and a further 33% from Q2 to Q3 (an 81% increase year‑to‑date), manual review workload fell, and Veriff’s video evidence has helped Uphold combat friendly fraud and support legal cases.
