A Vericut Case Study
Middle River Aerostructure Systems (MRAS) faced the challenge of automating the production of its small, lightweight composite aircraft components to reduce labor costs and variability. To achieve this, MRAS needed to implement an Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) solution that could work within the constraints of its existing female tooling and high-volume production rates. They partnered with vendor CGTech, utilizing its VERICUT software for simulation and programming.
With CGTech's VERICUT software, MRAS was able to digitally model and simulate the manufacturing process to develop a feasible AFP solution in conjunction with machine builder Electroimpact. This allowed them to successfully automate production within their capital expenditure targets. The solution implemented by CGTech enabled MRAS to meet its business case, achieving a significant reduction in labor costs and higher throughput, with production at or above planned levels. The move to automation also allowed MRAS to capture new business and expand its workforce.
