Oregon State University - Customer Case Study

Oregon State University faced a sudden surge in requests for transcripts and captioning when COVID-19 moved courses and campus activities online. The university’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing Access Services partnered with Verbit to automate transcription and captioning — deploying both live captioning and post-production transcription to meet ADA accessibility needs and support an increasing number of students who are hard of hearing.

Verbit rapidly implemented automated workflows, integrated with Zoom and common video conferencing tools, and provided onboarding, technical support, and customization (including API/token class-level configurations) to fit OSU’s processes. The solution scaled captioning capacity within a week, enabled instructors to post accessible recorded lectures on demand, and broadened access for students with a range of disabilities, helping OSU serve its roughly 32,000 students and meet unprecedented demand for accessible materials.
