A Verbit Case Study
Alamo Colleges District, a five-college network serving more than 98K students in the San Antonio area, faced sudden accessibility challenges when it moved all courses online in March 2020. With professors and interpreters freezing on Zoom and more students reporting hearing or “invisible” disabilities, the district needed reliable captioning and transcripts to ensure all learners could follow lecture-heavy classes. Alamo had already been using Verbit’s captioning and transcription services, including live CART and interactive transcripts with LMS integration, but demand surged as remote instruction expanded.
Alamo worked with Verbit to connect each campus to district-wide captioning and real-time transcription, integrating with CANVAS and offering competitive, manageable pricing. The deployment—supported by a Remote Ready Bootcamp for 5,000+ faculty—has seen Verbit usage grow substantially since January 2020, improved student access and retention during the shift online, increased faculty buy-in, and simplified scheduling and invoicing for accommodations. Verbit’s live captions and transcripts have given students a dependable way to follow classes, study later, and participate even when interpreters or presenters freeze.
