Mobile application helps improve transport efficiency

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, a major teaching hospital in Toronto, needed to replace manual bed management, housekeeping, and transport workflows with a faster, more real-time process. The hospital used Veradigm’s Allscripts Patient Flow solution, including its mobile application, to improve communication and patient throughput while reducing reliance on pagers, phones, and IVR systems.

Veradigm implemented a mobile-enabled Patient Flow workflow that let transporters and dispatchers send messages, update job status, and track tasks in real time. The results included a 10-second reduction in transport job cycle time, a rise in “in progress” compliance from 49% to 73%, and an estimated savings of more than 40 hours per month. Sunnybrook also gained better visibility into occupancy and operational timing, with no ongoing pager or IVR server costs.
