A Veradigm Case Study
Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, faced the challenge of improving medication safety and replacing paper drug charts with a consolidated electronic patient record across its 525‑bed acute site. Working with Allscripts and its Sunrise EPR platform, PRUH set out to digitise documentation and introduce Electronic Prescribing and Medication Administration (EPMA) ward‑by‑ward while managing configuration, training and workflow change.
Allscripts deployed the Sunrise EPR and EPMA between November 2017 and July 2018 (EPMA rolled out January–July 2018), and by the end of July nearly 100% of patients had an electronic chart. The Allscripts solution introduced syndromic prescribing, order sets and decision support to reduce handwriting errors, standardise evidence‑based prescribing, improve ED‑to‑ward flow, eliminate paper transcription and deliver measurable adoption and workflow benefits across the Trust.
