Forming an interconnected information system to support clinicians

Fraser Health, the largest health authority in British Columbia, faced a challenge in providing its clinicians with a single, comprehensive view of patient information, which was fragmented across multiple disparate clinical systems used in acute, community, and ambulatory care settings. They selected the Allscripts dbMotion Solution to form an interconnected information system that would aggregate and harmonize this data for use at the point of care.

The Allscripts dbMotion Solution integrated data from Fraser Health's various systems without requiring data replication, making it accessible within the clinician's existing workflow. The implementation was a phased success, growing from 100 early adopters to over 18,000 users gaining access to a unified patient record. This enabled better care coordination, reduced duplicative services, and provided a foundation for future integration with provincial repositories. Fraser Health cited the strong partnership with Allscripts as a key factor in the project's success.
