Appalachian Regional Healthcare System is continuously improving quality with Allscripts flexible, open platform

Appalachian Regional Healthcare System (ARHS), a North Carolina health system with two hospitals, a skilled nursing facility and a physician practice group, faced fragmented care from a hybrid paper/electronic environment and disparate systems that didn’t communicate. To modernize clinical workflows and patient engagement, ARHS selected Allscripts and its Allscripts Sunrise platform (plus associated services such as FollowMyHealth, Staff Augmentation and Remote Hosting).

Allscripts implemented Sunrise in a “big‑bang” rollout across both campuses (bringing mostly paper hospitals online within eight months), adopted ready‑to‑use CPM reports from the Allscripts Client Outcomes Collaboration Program, and used Allscripts Staff Augmentation and FollowMyHealth to extend capacity and patient engagement. The work helped ARHS reach Stage 6 of the HIMSS EMRAM, saved roughly 200 staff hours per month, enabled real‑time dashboards and improved discharge information and medication reconciliation (targeting lower readmissions and shorter length of stay), and established baseline CPM reporting for quality areas such as CLABSI.
